Story
In the world of SteamWorld, after the first game, SteamWorld TD, the shiners go under the earth and Rusty goes towards Tumbleton after his uncle gives him a deed to the mine. As he walks towards the area, he falls under the mine and is introduced to Dorothy, found digging in the mine. Dorothy tells Rusty his uncle died in the mines, and Rusty goes over, finds his dead body, and uses the pickaxe in his arm to escape the mines.
After Rusty gets more money, he goes to Hank McCrank to get upgrades. As Rusty goes deeper and deeper, he eventually finds the Old world, in which the devolved humans, called "Shiners", live in the game. This is after the first game, in which the Shiners go underground once you win, after the Steambots build civilization.
After more and more characters are introduced to sell things, you make it to Vectron. This is an area of destructive technology, and the first showing of electricity in Steamworld. After you get here, you eventually make it to the bottom, and must go back to obtain and destroy the generators found around the Archea and the Old World.
When you break these generators, you can get through the end, and make it to VoltBot, in which he finds Old Joe(his uncle) had merged with VoltBot willingly, though he didn't have a good heart. Due to this, VoltBot offers Rusty to merge with him, and rule Earth. Rusty refused to give himself up, and fought him. There had been fans around to keep him from overheating, in which he destroyed them, and hit Voltbot three times. This later had Voltbot defeated(along with most of Vectron), and he had escaped before the underground was destroyed.
Everyone except Dorothy lost faith, as it had been a month since the explosion without Rusty's return. Dorothy had then gone out to an expedition to find Rusty. As you see Rusty going off and away, you see his eyes are blue, representing his combination with Vectron.
Gameplay
The game consists of, at the start, going around while fighting small monsters, and finding technology and upgrades to get better at mining and defending yourself. The game slowly dips into more battling elements, until eventually ending with the final boss of VoltBot. The game also slowly gains more people in Tumbleton, as you sell your ore, as you get closer to Vectron. The game is sort-of like a tycoon, except you are the base, and the base is a steam-bot that goes around, mining.
Part In Timeline
This game is between Steamworld Tower Defense(2010), and SteamWorld Dig 2(2017), and SteamWorld Quest(2019) respectively. An overall summary is after the people create the Steambots. The Steambots create civilization, but the People slowly grow mutated and lazy, into the shiners. Steamworld TD is simply how the Shiners were sent to the Old World, with SteamWorld Dig introducing the slowly producing Vectron, as it seems technology was being created, and steambots had been combined into this creation. Then, SteamWorld Dig 2 shows the events of Dorothy, and before the Earth Blows. After SteamWorld had exploded, SteamWorld Quest shows Gabriel Seabrass telling a story to his son, before his appearance in Steamworld Heist.
My Personal Review
I believe this game, and the series's connected story, is very good. It shows a system of Steambots as they redo Human's old civilization, with gold - rush like vibes. I think the gameplay is a good and fun formula, and the second game, Steamworld Dig 2 added to it quite a bit. It started most of the 'real' SteamWorld games, and it went well. I really enjoyed my first, and second, playthrough, with over ten hours of playthroughs I have done in total. I would personally put this game rated around the same as SteamWorld Dig 2, and below SteamWorld Heist. Though, The Dig games are much more different from Heist.
Finish
That had been my SteamWorld Dig rating, review, story, and an explanation of the part in the timeline of SteamWorld Dig. The game has been out for, as of August sixth, 13 years of age. The game is still very good as of today, with an upgraded PS4 and computer version that has better graphics and animations. The game is on the Switch, Computer systems, the Nintendo 3DS, the PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita. Now that that has been assured, I have finished.
